Your dog can come too!

If you share your life with a dog, then we know that they’re part of your family and when you head off on your family holidays, we understand that leaving your best friend and companion at home, in a dog hotel or kennels may not rest well with everyone.

Thats why we welcome dogs, and well behaved humans, to Mill Meadow plus there are real benefits to taking your dog on holiday with you:

  • More Time to Bond on holiday when you’re spending unlimited amounts of time together build your relationship and receiving all that love.
  • Explore and Enjoy a different route everyday and revitalise yourself and your dog and you don’t know what interesting places you might stumble across!
  • Your Dog Needs a Holiday Too a change of scenery and providing them with nothing but leisure time is a great way for them to destress and relax, and we all need that!
  • They’re a Great Holiday Companion, better than some humans! They won’t complain when you have a lie-in (well not always). They won’t spend hours on their phone. Plus they’re a great conversation starter.
  • It’s probably a less costly option than kennels especially as from July 23 two dogs can now stay for the cost of one!

Enjoy your special time together.

Ask Mia

Are all the lodges dog friendly?

The majority of our lodges & cottages welcome dogs but out of consideration for those with allergies or aversions Heron Lodge is pet free.

Can my dog run free?

Mia says its better to follow the walk cards in your accommodation or visit one of the wide open spaces nearby where your dog can run and run and run!

Mill Meadow is largely open plan without fenced off gardens so we do ask that dogs are kept under full control whilst onsite and that is best achieved on a lead.

Please keep in mind that your dog may well be disorientated for the first few days and the last thing anyone would want is to lose a loved pet who takes off in pursuit of something furry and then can’t find their way back.

Also not everyone is comfortable with dogs and the use of a lead when outside helps to avoid misunderstandings.

Are there any specific dog do's and don'ts?

For the comfort and safety of everyone Mia asks please:

  • Do keep your dog under control, we have a lot of wildlife that is very tempting for dogs!
  • Do clean up after your dog, double bag and dispose of considerately
  • Do enjoy the many walks we have from the gate, including The Spinney and local countryside walks
  • Do follow the Countryside Code
  • Do keep your dog on the ground floor and off of the furniture
  • Do make sure your dog is not left alone in the lodge as this can cause distress that can lead to damage
Do you provide a Doggie Pack?

Your lodge has a welcome pack for your dog including a dog towel, water bowl, poo bags and a little treat.

If you need anything else for your dog please let us know and if we don’t have it we can point you in the right direct.

Do you have a dog sitting service?

There is a selection of providers who will look after your dog if the need arises, here are a few that guests have used:

What dog friendly places can we visit?

Apart from the countryside around Mill Meadow you can explore teh Quantock Hill’s, Exmoor National Park and the Somerset Coast.

Blue Anchor Bay and the Driftwood Cafe are favourites plus our local The Swan is a stroll away and welcomes dogs.

How many dogs can I bring and is there a charge?

You can add up to 2 dogs per booking and if you have more than 2 dogs don’t panic as you just have to contact us so that we can gather some additional information before confirming your request with the accommodation owner.

From July 2023 we have reduced our online booking fee from £35 per dog, a flat fee not a per night rate, to £35 for up to two dogs to contribute to the additional housekeeping when you leave us.

Compared with boarding rates, which can be between £15 -£25 per day, we think this is fair.

What do I need to think about when planning to bring my dog on holiday?

There is some great advice out their but remember each dog, like their human housemates, is an individual and also often comforted by routine so careful planning is essential for you and your dog to get the best from your holiday together.

One good source of guidance is the RSPC website, click here for more including a helpful download fact sheet.

I have another question...

Our 3 night stay had been well overdue and it was our first visit. Mill Meadows is an absolute hidden gem and the facilities are faultless with great workmanship and care put into every detail, from the perfectly built wooden cabin, cleanliness, sauna, hot tub, brick barbecue to the eco friendly harvesting of rain water, solar panels and Chris’s homemade flapjack! Together with the tranquil location the thoughtfulness for the customers takes away all stress and worries, the only negative is we wished we could stay longer, maybe next time.

- Woodpecker Lodge - June 2022

Such a lovely cabin, so quiet during the day and nice to listen to nature. Great being able to self cater and the management there were very helpful and friendly. The cabins were large and very spacious. Would stay again.

- Kingfisher Lodge - August 2022

We had such an amazing stay. The most relaxing, chilled weekend, just what we all needed. Will definitely be back!

- House Martins - April 2022

Thanks for visiting!
