Little Grebe is our latest arrival and an up cycling project that has resulted in a peaceful lakeside space to escape into for a host of uses including reading, painting & drawing, therapies, pampering, yoga and even afternoon tea to name a few.
Nestled in green countryside at the foot of the majestic Quantock Hills and close to the county town of Taunton, Mill Meadow is the perfect rural retreat to escape, relax and refresh. A private and gated community with spacious, light filled lodges, inviting hot tubs and a private coarse fishing lake, it is the premier destination for anyone seeking a luxurious lodge holiday experience.
Accessible and Dog friendly accommodation is available.
We are a small family run business and a warm welcome and personal touch awaits you on your arrival. Above all we want you to get the most from your stay and enjoy all that this beautiful place in which we live has to offer.
It was a cold wet afternoon when Joe and I arrived at a destination on top of the Blackdown Hills to collect a “preowned trailer”, and the hours of work since is recorded in the gallery below and we hope you agree that the result is a warm and welcoming peaceful space with a stunning view.
So why Little Grebe? also known as the “dabchick”. We really should have called it “Guinea Pig” as we have trialled a number of new construction methods some of which we may carry forward to the next Mill Meadow lodge we build and there was some considerable family “debate” but Little Grebe it is.
Grebes are diving waterbirds, feeding on small fish and aquatic invertebrates. The little grebe or ‘dabchick’ is about half the size of a moorhen. Grebes nest on floating platforms made up of waterweed.”Dabchick” dates from the middle of the 16th century and is from an obsolete word ‘dop meaning ‘dive’, ‘dip’, or ‘dabble’
The name fist well as its our smallest “lodge”, its by our lake and the Little Grebe is the smallest of our native waterbirds and is also a regular and welcome guest at Mill Meadow.

So you are welcome to “dop” or “dip” in to “dabble” in appropriate pastimes, just make sure you check in with us in advance so that your time in Little Grebe is the best experience it can be and we hope you enjoy Little Grebe as mush as we have enjoyed putting it together.
At Mill Meadow we have a “very fast” connection that is available free to all guests and does extend to Little Grebe.
Little Grebe is free to use for guests, all we ask is that you leave it clean and tidy so if its muddy shoes off please.
At the moment this is done on a good old fashioned diary so please let us know in advance and we will reserve your time.
If you book with one of our listed visiting providers they should check with us and reserve your space for you or you can still have your experience in your accommodation.
