Covid 19 – Guidance on Hot Tubs

Coronavirus and Hot Tubs

Here at Mill Meadow our hot tubs are already managed in accordance with guidance issued under HSG282 which can be downloaded from www.hse.gov.uk

Our guests can be reassured that our hot tub maintenance staff have attended BISHTA accredited training and follow the recommended twice daily chemical and visual checks of the hot tub and regular testing.

Whilst we had already confirmed with our local testing centre that in the face of Covid 19 we should continue our normal rigorous regime we are sharing the following information  so that wherever you are staying you can check that your hot tub is as safe as it can be.

This information regarding COVID-19 and Pool and Hot Tub use is sourced from the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance and we are informed is current as of 18.3.20.

“For the past few weeks, PHTA has been focused on the COVID-19 outbreak and its potential impact to our members. Many of you have reached out to us for guidance on what to communicate to your customers about whether COVID-19 could be transmitted in pools and hot tubs. Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released official guidance regarding this issue.

According to the CDC, there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (eg. with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”

Further Guidance for Hot Tub Users:

This guidance is in addition to our normal guidance that is available on our web page (click here).

It is important to know that whilst properly maintained spa water is believed to kill the virus, the areas surrounding your hot tub will not, it is therefore important for everyone to ensure hands are clean and wash them regularly, especially after touching areas surrounding your pool or hot tub. Areas around the hot tub can be washed down using an antibacterial wipe.

For maintenance operatives:

Areas around the hot tub can be washed down using a dilute solution of chlorine and operatives are reminded to wear gloves not just when handling chemicals for cleaning purposes.
